Variscite is named for the Latin word for Vogtland in Saxony, where its color matched the costumes of the traditional spring festivals, which can actually still be seen today. At one time, variscite was called Utahlite.
Because of its resemblance to tracks across the land, it was also a focus in sacred earth awareness ceremonies among the Native Americans and Australian Aboriginals.
Variscite is a soothing stone. It is sometimes called a "true worry stone" because it is reputed to ease fear, tension, anxiety, worry, and impatience. It is also thought to relieve stress and depression and give courage and inner strength, engendering self-reliance. Variscite can help calm the mind and help it be still, which makes it an excellent stone for meditaiton. Variscite can be a benefit for intuition and psychic perceptions, and is excellent for past-life recall. Physically, variscite is used in crystal healing because it is thought to strengthen cells and tissues, blood problems, nervous system, kidneys, muscles and bones. It is also used for male reproductive healing, including impotence.
